Resident Evil 4 Remake Changing Leadership Team

The development is getting a "soft reboot"
by Oliver VanDervoort on January 31, 2021

Earlier this winter, we found out that there was a Resident Evil 4 Remake being made. While Capcom never really acknowledged that fact, there are new reports that both add credence to those leaks, and should make fans of the series a bit nervous.

VGC reported last week that the game's development is seeing a change in leadership. Whatever was worked on before now, is also getting a soft "reboot."

Both of those factors are both good and bad. Obviously, this means that the gaming world is still quite a ways from seeing the finished product. On the other hand, while Resident Evil 2 Remake was quite beloved, the reaction to Resident Evil 3 Remake was mixed.

If Capcom took some of the less pleasant reviews to heart and is working to make Resident Evil 4 that much better, that's only going to be a good thing in the long run.

The report says that core Resident Evil studio Capcom Division 1 has taken the lead on the project, with original developer M-Two seeing its role reduced. The reboot and changes could lead to a 2023 release date.

Apparently, at the heart of the takeover was that M-Two was being too faithful to the original game, while Capcom wanted to lean on it as inspiration, but wanted it to be more than a remaster. M-Two is said to have wanted to stick to the Resi 4 formula due to backlash against Resident Evil 3's changes, which saw portions of the original game entirely removed.

Now, Resident Evil fans will have to wait and see how this all shapes up.
