Could We Be Getting a New Castlevania From the Director of God of War Ragnarök?

You never really know... do you?
by Natalie Collazo on November 22, 2022

God of War Ragnarok: Cory Barlog and Eric Williams on Changing Directors, Why Williams Was Right for the Role

Just recently, Kinda Funny Games and the cast did a Spoilercast episode featuring the director of God of War Ragnarök, Eric Williams. Greg Miller, along with Andy Cortez, Tim Gettys, and Blessing Adeoye spoke to the famous director about his vision for his future as well as the vision for God of War's future. While most of the conversation revolved around the idea that the new God of War installment won't have any DLC, it was touched upon that Williams would like to someday work on Konami's long-running IP, Castlevania.

Ragnarök is by no doubt a huge game, making a lack of DLC not really too much of an issue. There's already so much for players to explore in the base game as of right now. With reference to his interest in Castlevania and all those who were tuned in, Williams said, “You have the audience out here, the world, you know? I don’t know what I’m doing next, but if somebody gets me that Castlevania license, [Santa Monica] would love to make that.”

Check out the entire interview below:

Castlevania has recently seen the light as part of Netflix's lineup of animated shows. Unfortunately, the latest entry in the video game lineup of the series was released back in 2014 as the sequel to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. We've since then received different game compilations including the 2019 Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the 2021 Castlevania Advance Collection, but nothing close to a new entry in the gothic-horror saga.

While the interview with Kinda Funny isn't necessarily proof that something is to come, it's definitely proof that developers are interested. If Konami doesn't look toward making a new installment to the series, maybe Santa Monica Studio could take the reigns.
