Sony Accidentally Mentions Release Year of PlayStation 6

But then they immediately redacted the statement.
by Natalie Collazo on November 23, 2022

The latest news of the acquisition between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard seems to involve competitor Sony. Industry analyst and games researcher Piers Harding-Rolls spotted a since redacted CMA from Sony discussing how the acquisition will hurt the sales of their next generation of hardware due to losing access to the Call of Duty franchise. The comments made in the statement allude to the idea that the next generation of hardware was scheduled to release shortly after this is to happen in 2027.

The latest in Sony's hardware, the PlayStation 5, has been on sale for roughly two years and is still the topic of much scrutiny due to availability. Microsoft's rival hardware, the Xbox Series, has also had similar issues as a result of hardware shortages and intense demand. Considering the fact that Microsoft also has an avenue for PC players, Sony's opposition to the large-scale acquisition isn't unfounded. For players who do not have access to the latest hardware, Cloud gaming and Game Pass connections are still in the works toward being more accessible for players.

When Sony loses the ability to hold the critically-acclaimed shooter franchise on its hardware, it will definitely be a big hit. Hopefully, different developments between now and then will change the landscape, as it tends to do. Microsoft has also discussed its intention about creating a mobile gaming store to further amplify the changes in consumer wants.
