OpTic Halo Invitational Postponed

A shaky start to the season
by Tit Krajnik on December 02, 2022

The 2023 Halo Championship Series (HCS) season was supposed to kick off with the OpTic Halo invitational this month; however, the plan fell through. As revealed by the North American esports organization, the event had to be postponed due to challenges with getting enough teams to compete in it.

On Thursday, December 1, fans who bought the tickets for the OpTic Halo Invitational were informed that their purchases have been refunded. In the email, it was explained that OpTic Halo Invitational won’t be held on the planned date due to teams not committing to the event but that the tournament will still be held later in 2023.

Soon after the fans received the email explaining the situation, OpTic released a statement explaining the postponement of the Invitational. As Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez explained, the OpTic Halo Invitational had “too many moving parts”  to take place, but that the event won’t be cancelled, rather just postponed to 2023.

The OpTic Halo Invitational was presented as an invite-only LAN Halo esports tournament, but despite promising to be an exciting event, the plans of hosting it eventually fell through. The news comes during a time of high uncertainty about the future of Halo esports, as many big brands – including Fnatic, eUnited, and Cloud9 – decided to drop their rosters ahead of the 2023 season.

On a more positive note Cloud9’s roster, which reached the finals of the Halo World Championship 2022, has already found a new home with Spacestation Gaming. Meanwhile, eUnited and Fnatic leaving the scene made room for Complexity and Quadrant as the newest organizations to enter Halo esports.

With OpTic postponing its Invitational event, the 2023 Halo Championship Series season will kick off with an online event, the Spacestation Spartan Snowdown, on January 13. The event will be succeeded by HCS qualifiers for the Year Two Kickoff Major, slated to begin at the end of January.
