CD Projekt Red Confirm Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year Edition

The comeback story is almost complete
by Joe Wilcock on December 04, 2022

Nobody could have foreseen the events that followed Cyberpunk 2077’s announcement some 10 years ago. The gift of hindsight has led us to the conclusion that it was all a bit of a mess. From the incredibly large wait between announcement and release to the release itself, which is well documented and will go down in history as an infamous chapter in CD Project Red’s legacy, and in fact gaming as a whole.

Lessons must be learned from failures such as these, but it wasn’t terminal for Cyberpunk 2077. Since its release two years ago, it’s been desperately trying to gain credibility by rectifying its mistakes through a plethora of updates and patches. Well, now they feel they have gotten to a point where they can release the game again as a special edition, hilariously titled: Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year Edition.

“It’s the natural order of things – it was the same with The Witcher, which after both expansions was finally released as a Game of the Year Edition and has been on the market that way ever since. The same can be expected in this case.”

- Adam Kicinski, CEO CD Projekt

After the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion, which is due to release next year, CD Projekt Red will roll out its game of the year edition in the hope to gather some respect back from their loyal fans. This is, of course, all in preparation for their upcoming projects. Not only has a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel been confirmed, codenamed “Orion”, but the polish company intend on producing a sequel to The Witcher 4 and an open-world remake of the original Witcher.

No official date has been given for the Game of the Year edition, which is sure to include tons of DLC and expansions, but CD Projekt Red is planning to release it sometime next year.

For those who are unfamiliar with Cyberpunk 2077, its description is as such:

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure RPG set in the megalopolis of Night City, where you play as a cyberpunk mercenary wrapped up in a do-or-die fight for survival. Improved and featuring all-new free additional content, customize your character and playstyle as you take on jobs, build a reputation, and unlock upgrades. The relationships you forge and the choices you make will shape the story and the world around you. Legends are made here. What will yours be?

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
