343 Industries Loses Another Key Employee

Tom French, Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer Creative Director, leaves after 11 years of working on Halo
by Joe Wilcock on December 05, 2022

A mass exodus of high-profile employees at 343 Industry is taking place. Studio head, Bonnie Ross, left in September due to personal family issues followed closely by Halo Infinite Slipspace Engine developer, David Berger, now it seems they’ve lost another. Tom French, a Halo veteran of over 11 years and the multiplayer creative director has left as well:

"It's been a massive honor to have been part of a game I loved so much as a player and admired so much as a developer. I couldn't be more proud of my time at 343”

- Tom French

French worked on several facets of the multiplayer components of different Halos. He was known as a mission designer and worked a lot on Halo’s forge mode before bowing out of the company as multiplayer creative director on 343’s latest venture: Halo Infinite

Although we received a farewell message, he didn’t state a reason for his departure nor any update on future endeavours. Perhaps he intends to keep things private after the company’s time in the limelight since the release of Infinite.

It’s not all doom and gloom for the Halo series though, after much controversy over the omission of a cooperative campaign, the first in the series to do so, it finally got added to Infinite last month. Many features such as Forge mode are slowly but surely being added to Halo Infinite, making it the game we were promised.

Although Halo Infinite was received relatively well, the franchise has stagnated over the last few entries. Maybe some new blood is exactly what the series needs.
