Vici Gaming Release Three Dota 2 Players

Just three days ahead of Dota 2 roster lock, Vici Gaming boots two players and a coach
by Tit Krajnik on December 06, 2022

Vici Gaming released two of its Dota 2 players and head coach on Monday, December 5, due to poor domestic results in 2022. This leaves the Chinese esports team with only three members on its active roster, three days before the 2023 season roster lock.

Vici Gaming used to be one of China's strongest Dota 2 teams but have failed to live up to the expectations over the last years, particularly in 2022, when Vici didn't achieve anything noteworthy and even failed to qualify for The International. As a result, the Chinese esports organization decided to make roster changes ahead of the 2023 season, releasing Guo "Xm" Hongcheng, Pan "Fade" Yi, and heads coach Wang "Liekkas" Yutian.

The recent departure sees Xm and Liekkas leave the team after a one-year stint which began in November 2021. Meanwhile, Fade was let go from the organization after just four months, having joined Vici in August as a replacement for Zhao "Yds." Jiayi.

The roster moves make a lot of sense, considering Vici haven't won anything in 2022, nor have they come close to lifting a trophy. Throughout the 2022 season, Vici have managed two fifth-place finishes in DPC CN Tour 1: Division I and Tour 2: Division I, but could only put together a seventh-place finish in the final tour of the DPC season.

Having failed to collect enough DPC points, Vici had to enter the China qualifier for The International 2022, where they placed third, adding another failed qualifying run in October when Vici finished the Last Chance Qualifier in fourth place.

With that, Vici missed out on The International for the second time in two years. Moreover, 2022 marked one of Vici Gaming's worst seasons to date as the team ended yet another season without a trophy. Vici won their last Dota 2 tournament title in October 2020, when they won OGA Dota PIT Season 3: China.

With just three days remaining until the 2023 DPC roster lock, Vici will likely announce its new members in the coming days; however, it remains to be seen who will fill in the gaps left behind Fade, Xm, and Liekkas.
