The developers of fan remakes for the popular horror games, Resident Evil and Resident Evil Code: Veronica, have announced that they have ceased development on both projects after receiving requests from Capcom, the original game's publisher, to cancel the project. The Resident Evil series, known for its survival horror gameplay, gained widespread popularity with the release of the first game in 1996.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica, the third sequel in the series, was first released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and later ported to other platforms. In June 2021, a demo for the fan-made Code: Veronica remake was released by Briins Croft, Matt Croft, and the animator DarkNemesisUmbrella with plans for a more substantial version set for early 2023. However, on December 23, the developers announced that they had received two cease-and-desist emails from Capcom, citing copyright and licensing issues as reasons for the project's cancellation.

The fan developers believe that the project was shut down due to its official-looking nature and the fact that it was gaining a lot of visibility. Despite the cancellation, the team plans to continue developing games and will work on a new project inspired by Code: Veronica, but without the risk of copyright issues.
