It has recently come to light that Nintendo has fixed a security flaw that could have allowed hackers to gain access to compromised Switch, 3DS, and Wii U games. The issue, known as "ENLBufferPwn", was first noted in 2021 by PabloMK7, Rambo6Glaz, and Fishguy6564 and was given a critical rating of 9.8/10 in the CVSS 3.1 calculator.

PabloMK7 went on to produce a video on Twitter to demonstrate exactly how this flaw was affecting the games that people were playing.

This exploit was reportedly patched in games such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Super Mario Maker 2, as well as Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8. The hackers who discovered the issue and reported it through Nintendo's HackerOne program were rewarded with a $1000 bounty. It is currently unclear if the same fix will be applied to affected Wii U games.
