by Natalie Collazo on January 13, 2023

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with Pokémon GO’s 2023 Lunar New Year event!

As the Lunar New Year approaches, Pokémon Go is getting ready to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit. From January 19th to the 23rd, players can look forward to a host of in-game events and bonuses, as well as increased appearances of certain Pokemon.

The event will run from 10 am to 8 pm local time each day, and players can expect to encounter a variety of Pokémon more frequently in the wild. These include Buneary, Bunnelby, Ponyta, Magmar, Magikarp, Slugma, Numel, Combee, Fennekin, and even the elusive Shiny Darumaka.

In addition to increased wild appearances, players will also have the chance to receive Lucky Pokémon through trades, and the chance to become Lucky Friends with other players. The event will also feature a variety of bonuses, including 2x Stardust from opening Gifts, an additional Special Trade available per day, and selectable bonuses as rewards for completing Timed Research and Lucky Wishes.

During the event, players can also look forward to hatching a variety of Pokemon from 7km Eggs, including Chingling, Riolu, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, and Scraggy. Raids will also feature a host of Pokémon, including Hisuian Voltorb, Shinx, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, Flareon, Shuckle, Blaziken, Druddigon, Diggersby, Regice, and Lopunny.

Players can also expect to encounter a variety of Pokémon through Field Research tasks, including Charmander, Paras, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Combee, Buneary, Tepig, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, Fennekin, Bunnelby, and Litten. And, as always, players can expect new stickers to attach to postcards, and a new avatar item, the Red Lantern Backpack, available for purchase.
