Team Aster Qualify For Lima Major

Team Aster wasted no time in grabbing a ticket for Lima Major
by Tit Krajnik on January 15, 2023

Chinese Dota 2 esports team, Team Aster, claimed the first ticket for the upcoming Lima Major 2023 by winning all five of their Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) China Division I bouts. With that, Aster became the first Dota 2 team to qualify for the Major, now waiting for the remaining 17 spots to be filled.

Team Aster entered the 2023 DPC season as one of the strongest Chinese Dota 2 teams, and they didn’t need long to prove their status. Led by head coach Bai "rOtK" Fan, Team Aster cruised through the opening two weeks of the 2023 DPC China season, beating Knights, Xtreme Gaming, EHOME, Aster.Aries, and Dawn Gaming, thus locking in five wins, guaranteeing them a top-four finish in the league.

Throughout the five-game winning streak, Aster have dropped just two maps - against Knights and Xtreme Gaming - but took no prisoners in the second week of action, when they accumulated three 2-0 sweeps.

Although Aster guaranteed themselves a spot at the Major, they still have two more games left to be played. First, Aster need to play Invictus Gaming on Wednesday, February 1, and PSG.LGD, who Aster will meet in the final match of the Winter Tour on Thursday, February 2.

Aster becoming the first team to qualify for Lima Major has to do with the Chinese DPC starting about a week earlier than the rest of other regions. Nevertheless, Aster deserves recognition for going 5-0, which sets them just two wins away from a perfect finish to the opening tour of the 2023 DPC season.

The Lima Major 2023 is slated for February 22 – March 5 in Lima, Peru. The first Major of the 2023 DPC season will welcome 18 teams and offer a $500,000 prize pool and 1900 DPC points, used towards The International 2023 qualifying.

Western Europe and China will both send four teams to Lima, while Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia will have three representatives. North America and South America will send just two teams to the Major.
