Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Delayed

Are you ready for February?
by Natalie Collazo on January 19, 2023

In a recent tweet from @CallofDutyUK, Activision announced that the highly-anticipated Season 2 for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 has been delayed. Originally scheduled to launch on February 1st, the new launch date is now set for February 15th. The delay is to allow the studio teams to make "several changes" based on feedback from the player community.

Despite enjoying a successful launch late last year, player dissatisfaction has grown with both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0. Players of Modern Warfare 2 have expressed that the premium shooter lacks content compared to the free-to-download Warzone 2.0. However, feedback on the DMZ extraction mode has been largely positive.

In its statement, Activision promised the return of the Resurgence mode for Warzone 2.0, a brand new small map, and updates to the Gulag, looting, and loadouts. Modern Warfare 2, on the other hand, will see the return of ranked play, new multiplayer maps, new modes, and weapons. While specific details have not been released, Activision said it will release more information soon.

According to SteamDB, Modern Warfare 2 player numbers have dropped off steadily following a peak in early November. Despite this, the game remains in Steam's top 10 most-played games list.
