343 Studios Will Continue to Make Halo Games

The studio confirms via Twitter
by Joe Wilcock on January 23, 2023

343 Studios have had a turbulent and polarising track record with Halo since taking the mantle from the legendary Bungie Studios. It started off well enough with the remaster of the original Halo in making Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary which was a beautiful, modern rendition of the classic first-person shooter that kickstarted the franchise. Then, work started on their sequel, Halo 4, which was met with overwhelmingly positive critical reviews, but left much to be desired for the general public. A solid start was thwarted by a messy collection of all the previous games, the Masterchief Collection, which has a multitude of bugs and connectivity problems throughout its launch and subsequent services.

Halo 5: Guardians would continue to split opinions and would leave fans furious over decisions made regarding the narrative of the fifth instalment, but was met with similarly positive reviews nevertheless. Now, in the wake of Halo Infinite, the Halo to end all Halos, we are left wondering what is in store for the future of the franchise.

343 Studios have put any worries or speculation to bed by making a statement on Twitter, confirming that the company will continue to work on Halo for the indefinite future:

Halo Infinite is supposed to sustain the franchise for the next 10 years, making it more of a platform equipped for receiving a plethora of updates, expansions, features and game modes but it launched with many of these aspects missing, the most criminal of all was the omission of a co-op campaign. Time will tell if we ever get a bonafide sequel from 343, but for now, they will continue to work hard on Halo Infinite to improve and perfect it.
