BioWare, the renowned video game developer known for hit titles such as Mass Effect, Anthem, and Dragon Age, is undergoing a change in leadership as 19-year veteran Mac Walters has decided to leave the company. The news of Walters' departure went largely unnoticed until recently, as he confirmed it in a post on LinkedIn.

Walters joined BioWare in 2003 as a writer for Jade Empire, and quickly climbed the ranks to become a senior writer on the original Mass Effect, lead writer for Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, creative director on Mass Effect Andromeda, narrative director for Anthem, and director of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Most recently, he held the position of production director on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

In his post, Walters wrote, "With a new year comes new adventures. As some of you already know, at the end of last year I decided to leave BioWare. These past 19 years have been a life-changing experience to say the least, and it made the choice to go very difficult." He went on to express his gratitude for the opportunity to work with such wonderful people and be a part of amazing teams and projects, and wishing his past colleagues all the best in everything they do.

Walters' LinkedIn page now states that he is taking a "career break" as he pursues new projects and goals. His departure follows the footsteps of other BioWare veterans such as Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, Casey Hudson, and Mark Darrah, who have all left the company in recent years. Gary McKay is now the new general manager of BioWare, and is leading the company into the future.

BioWare's upcoming projects include several highly-anticipated games including Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, another installment to the Mass Effect series, and ongoing support for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Fans of the developer's work can expect to see new and exciting developments under McKay's leadership.
