Invictus Gaming Shuts Down Its Apex Legends Division

IG decides to leave Apex Legends esports scene
by Tit Krajnik on February 20, 2023

On Monday, February 20, Invictus Gaming announced that the organization is exciting Apex Legends esports scene after 18 months by releasing its entire roster shortly after the start of the 2023 season.

On Monday, Invictus Gaming International parted ways with their Apex Legends roster of Cameron "Noiises" Walker, Jake "Jmw" Walters, Martin "Graceful" Wongphrom, and Brynn "brynn" Crompton Corbet after the Chinese esports organization decided to exit the esports scene. In the announcement, posted on Twitter, Invictus Gaming didn't specify the exact reason for why the organization won't continue to compete in the title.

Invictus Gaming International's exit from Apex Legends follows a disappointing showing at ALGS: 2023 Split 1 Playoffs in London, where the international squad placed 30th. Although IG found some success in the first round of Loser's Bracket, they crashed out of the tournament with a last-place finish in the second round, collecting just two points across six games played.

IG's rough showing at ALGS: 2023 Split 1 Playoffs continued the team's streak of shaky displays from 2022 when IG failed to win any big events. They placed 31st at ALGS: 2022 Split 2 Playoffs and 19th at ALGS: 2022 Championship. IG's best result of the year was winning JBL Quantum Cup 2022 – Europe in December, followed by a sixth-place finish at ALGS: 2022 Split 1 Pro League – EMEA.

It remains to be see what will happen with the roster, but according to the team captain, Noiises, the squad plans to keep competing together and is currently looking for new offers.

Invictus Gaming are not the only esports organization to exit Apex Legends this year. Just last week, Spacestation Gaming parted ways with its Apex roster, and at the end of January, Sentinels decided to do the same, releasing Adam "senoxe" Lau, Nicholas "Crust" Kell, and Trenton "lou" Clements.
