Hogwarts Legacy TV Show in Early Stages of Development

Its crafted by the Last of Us producers
by Joe Wilcock on February 23, 2023

HBO Max, the premium streaming platform, has set its sights on bringing the magical world of Hogwarts to the small screen with an adaptation of Hogwarts Legacy. According to GiantFreakinRobot, Warner Bros are ready to ditch the abysmal Fantastic Beasts series in favour of restarting with Hogwarts Legacy.

“Since the underperformance of last year’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, there’s been speculation that Warner Bros. Discovery might be giving up both on that spinoff film series and perhaps the franchise as a whole. Developing Hogwarts Legacy for the screen might be the studio’s way of seeing whether or not they can keep the franchise relevant on another platform.
The series is still in the early phases of development”

Details are unsurprisingly scarce but it is expected to be a period piece again, taking plays centuries before the events of Harry Potter. Familiar faces and locations still have ample opportunity to make appearances, but no characters, actors or writers are publicly attached to the project at the moment.

The interest has come from the back of Hogwarts Legacy success, which the Warner Bros. Games president, David Haddad is particularly happy with.

“The player engagement is spectacular. So far, we have tracked over 152 million hours played, 173 million magical plants grown, 115 million potions brewed and 556 million Dark Wizards defeated.”

- David Haddad, Warner Bros. Games president

The Harry Potter franchise has a rich history of live-action adaptations, starting with the film series that spanned over a decade, from 2001 to 2011. In addition to the films, there have been several other live-action adaptations of the Harry Potter universe, including the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which debuted in London in 2016 and the Fantastic Beasts spin-off series.
