VCT LOCK//IN 2023 Was The Second-Most Watched Valorant Event

The season-opening Valorant tournament peaked at over 1.4 million viewers
by Tit Krajnik on March 06, 2023

The opening event of the 2023 Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) season, VTC LOCK//IN 2023, was the second-most watched Valorant esports tournament in history. The event, hosted in Sao Paulo, Brazil, attracted approximately 1.43 million peak viewers and 432,596 on average, with just over 100 hours on-air.

VCT LOCK//IN 2023 culminated on Saturday, March 4, when Fnatic defeated LOUD (3-2) in the grand finals in one of the most entertaining matches in Valorant esports' history. But not only has VCT LOCK//IN 2023 delivered unforgettable matches, but it also produced incredible viewership numbers.

As the first official tournament of the 2023 Valorant season, VCT LOCK//IN 2023 accumulated more than 44.1 million hours watched and attracted 432,596 average viewers. The event peaked in viewership numbers in the grand final between LOUD and Fnatic at 1.4 million, which was also the only match of the tournament with over a million peak viewers.

The home crowd favourites, LOUD, were the most watched team of the event, with 13.9 million hours watched and lead in average viewers at 684k. The English broadcast accounted for more than 41% of total hours, followed by Portuguese at 21%.

VCT LOCK//IN 2023 was broadcasted by over 200 channels across Facebook Gaming, Twitch, and YouTube. Besides the official channels, the tournament was also live streamed by community casters, including former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive pro player Tarik "tarik" Celik whose channel reached over 190k peak viewers – in contrast, the official English channel peaked at nearly 210k.

In terms of peak viewers, the VCT LOCK//IN 2023 was the second-most popular Valorant tournament in history behind VALORANT Champions 2022. The latter had over 1.5 million peak viewers.

Not that the dust has settled on the VCT LOCK/IN 2023, the Valorant esports scene continues with regional leagues, which will take place in Berlin (EMEA), Seoul (Pacific League), and Los Angeles (Americas League), starting on March 25.

The top teams from their respective leagues will then compete in VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo, slated for June 11-25. Thanks to Fnatic's success in Brazil, the EMEA league will have an additional slot for VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo and will be the most represented region at the tournament with four teams, followed by Americas and Pacific, with three apiece.
