Zero Retires From CS:GO

Slovakian Counter-Strike: Global Offensive pro player calls it quits
by Tit Krajnik on March 20, 2023

Patrik "Zero" Zudel has announced his retirement from professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Monday, March 20, via a Twitter post. The 24-year-old cited loss of interest in competing in Valve's first-person shooter title as the main reason behind his decision.

Zero officially announced he retired from professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Monday, ending his 10-year-old career as a CS:GO pro, which started in March 2013. Throughout the ten years, Zero has played for several teams, but he is mainly known for his stint with HellRaisers, who he joined as a stand-in in January 2016 and remained with the squad until December 2017.

His most notable success came while Zero was a part of HellRaisers, where he played alongside Martin "STYKO" Styk, Tomas "oskar" Stastny, and Kiril "ANGE1" Karasiow. The trio attended the first ELEAGUE Major and won several Big Events, including DreamHack Open Tours 2017 and Copenhagen Games 2016.

Since he left HellRaisers at the end of 2017, Zero has played for a handful of squads, including Budapest Five, GamerLegion, and most recently, SINNERS Esports, which he joined in July 2022. Unfortunately, since leaving HellRaisers, Zero hasn't reached the same level of success, with MCR 2022 title in November being his most notable accomplishment since.

Yet, the lack of success wasn't why Zero hung up his mouse and keyboard. In a Twitter post, he explained that he lost interest in playing the game and is no longer driven to improve his skills.

"I'm grateful for the incredible 10-year journey in esports. I feel privileged to be able to retire at the age of 24 and look back on the great memories from the past years," said Zero.

"I have lost interest in competing, and as a result, I am no longer driven to improve my skills in CS. I am not interested in pursuing something solely for money."

In the future, Zero will focus on his studies and streaming on Twitch, but according to his announcement, he has no intentions of continuing to be involved in the competitive side of CS:GO.
