We are currently at the height of television when it comes to adaptations of our favorite novels, comics, and now, video games. HBO's The Last Of Us proved to be a hit among not only those who played the game but just about anyone who can recognize a good story. Now, it looks like Netflix wants to get in on the fun with a live-action adaptation show and film for Gears of War.

As of today, it looks like the series has found its writer in John Spaihts. The writer is more recently known for his work on Dr. Strange and the most recent film adaptation of Dune. He brought Frank Herbert's science fiction fantasy to life which earned the film an Oscar nomination for best-adapted screenplay. To put power behind the statement, it was Tweeted via the official Gears of War Twitter account.

Of course, just having a writer doesn't necessarily mean that we'll see a trailer for the project this year. There's still a ton to be done. In fact, we aren't even sure who will be playing Marcus Fenix. Although, actor and wrestler Dave Bautista did make his interest in the role known.

The Coalition themselves is just as excited about the developments as we all are, saying “We’re thrilled to partner with Jon and the Netflix team to bring ‘Gears of War’ to life. Jon is a master storyteller with a talent for creating epic, science-fiction universes, and he truly loves ‘Gears of War.’ We couldn’t ask for a better partner to honor our franchise and deliver an authentic story to our fans.”

Gears of Wars follows the story of Marcus Fenix who leads the Delta Squad into the fight against the Locusts and other enemies that have encapsulated a warn-torn and collapsed society. The series has spanned over five games, with the latest being Gears 5, and has become one of the most popular and recognizable video games of all time.
