CS:GO 2 Officially Coming - Overhauling The Game As We Know It

This looks to be the update that everyone's been waiting for.
by Natalie Collazo on March 22, 2023

Counter-Strike 2 has been revealed ahead of a summer 2023 release | VGC

For close to 11 years, fans of the popular shooter, Counter-Strike: Special Offensive, have been waiting for a sequel. Even if you've never played the game yourself, there's a good chance you saw classmates playing it on connected computers if you attended public school. In fact, I remember having a USB with both CS:GO and a copy of Minecraft on it so that I can play them whenever I got bored in class.

Now, it looks like Valve will be gracing us with a complete overhaul of Counter-Strike in the form of a sequel. What's even better news is that gamers will be able to experience CS:GO 2 as a free upgrade to the base game this coming summer, as per the official website. A Limited Test will also be available for a select few players of the original game before the official release.

One of the biggest new additions to the game is smoke grenades. Now, the smoke itself is more interactive and reacts to things like other explosions, light, and even bullets. Tick rate will also no longer be important when it comes to all aspect of moving. The game promises that all movement, shooting, and grenade throws will always be the same.

Even maps have a new look to them, making the previous versions seem really dated. In fact, if you happen to be a part of the map-making community, then you'll be able to create your own using the Source 2 tools. This, paired with new weapons skins and brand-new audio, there is a ton to look forward to in this upgrade. You can check out exactly how everything works via three videos that Valve posted to their YouTube about the announcement.
