Microsoft Removes $1 Game Pass Trial Offer

The gaming titan is “evaluating different marketing promotions”
by Joe Wilcock on March 27, 2023

In an announcement to The Verge, Microsoft has decided that it will no longer be offering its $1 trial for Xbox Game Pass. The popular gaming subscription service, which provides users with access to a wide range of games, has been a huge hit since its launch in 2017. The decision to revoke the $1 trial offer has been met with disappointment by fans, many of whom have used the trial to try out new games or to catch up on old favourites. It has served as a gateway to gaming's most fruitful offer for years.

The Xbox Game Pass is a monthly subscription service offered by Microsoft for Xbox and PC gamers. It allows players to download and play a selection of games from a library of over 100 titles, with new games being added regularly. The service has been extremely successful, with over 18 million subscribers as of January 2021. The service is available in two different tiers: the basic Xbox Game Pass, which costs $9.99 per month, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which costs $14.99 per month and includes access to Xbox Live Gold.

The trial offer was introduced in 2019 and allowed new users to try out the service for one month for just $1. This offer was available to both new and existing Xbox Live Gold members, allowing them to upgrade to Game Pass Ultimate for their first month. The offer was seen as a great way to introduce new users to the service and was hugely popular with gamers around the world.

Microsoft has not given a specific reason for revoking the offer, but it is likely that the company is looking to increase its revenue from the service and is "evaluating different marketing promotions".

“We have stopped our previous introductory offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass and are evaluating different marketing promotions for new members in the future,”

- Microsoft
