Silent Hill 2 Remake is Not Ready for Release Yet -  Bloober Team Clarify

“All of our activities are focused on obtaining the highest quality the finished product”
by Joe Wilcock on March 30, 2023

Bloober Team CEO, Piotr Babieno, has had to clarify a mistranslated comment the team made last week which stated that the Silent Hill 2 remake is “technically ready”. In the interview given to a Polish financial news outlet, Bankier.pl, Bloober Team had been misquoted that they expected the remake to sell over 10 million copies and that the game is ready. They addressed the conjecture that this caused on Twitter retracted the statement and clarified what state Silent Hill 2 is truly in.

"As the Bloober Team, we don't comment on rumors. However, this time we need to take the floor, as some recent statements have been taken out of context, due to inaccurate translations. Our company's messages did not contain sales forecasts of specific titles. The figures connected to Silent Hill 2 refer to the potential success of the type of games we will be focusing on in the future.

It is also not true that we have announced that Silent Hill 2 is ready for release. Regardless of the development stage, all of our activities are focused on obtaining the highest quality for the finished product-the quality that fans of Silent Hill 2 deserve. We are aware that players are waiting for more information about Silent Hill 2. As soon as such information becomes available, we are sure that Konami, the publisher of the game, will share it with fans.

Thank you for your support and we will continue to do our best to provide high-quality games that give players the best emotional experience possible."

- Bloober Team

The original Silent Hill 2 was released in 2001 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest horror games of all time. The game's success was due to its disturbing atmosphere, psychological horror, and an emotionally complex story that dealt with themes of guilt, loss, and mental illness. Fans have been hoping for a remake that would update the game's graphics and mechanics while maintaining the same level of atmosphere and storytelling, despite Sam Barlow, former writer and designer, labelling the project as a "poison chalice". He believes people will be upset regardless of what they do so it's a lose-lose situation in his opinion.

Fans on the other hand can't get enough of remakes at the moment, what with the slew of Resident Evil, Dead Space and The Last of Us remakes proving to be huge success stories. Some warrant a remake more than others and Silent Hill 2 certainly feels appropriate, but the technical limitations of the time added tension to the game so it will be interesting to see how they address this in the remake.
