Nioh 1 & 2 Heading To PS5 in 2021?

Next-Gen Update Will be Free for Current Users
by Oliver VanDervoort on December 21, 2020

While the PlayStation 5 is almost entirely backward compatible when it comes to PS4 games, there are still actually very few titles made specifically for the PS5. The limited library will get a couple of new entries early next year.

Both Nioh and Nioh 2 are coming to the PS5 as remastered collections in 2021. On February 5, the Nioh Remastered Collection will house both original games, plus all their DLC. Users can also buy either game separately.

PS4 and PC users aren’t being left in the lurch, however. They’ll be able to buy the Nioh 2 Complete Edition which will include all three pieces of DLC. They will then be able to upgrade to the PS5 version free of charge. Users can also just upgrade their regular copy of Nioh 2, but any DLC they don’t own won’t be included.

Koei Tecmo and Sony made it clear that as long as you pick up a new edition of the games, you’re going to be looking at something quite pretty. The PS5 remasters support 4K resolution and up to 120 FPS gameplay. The PC release of Nioh 2 supports 4K Ultra-HD and ultra-widescreen resolutions, as well as HDR and 144Hz monitors, with frame rates of up to 120FPS on capable systems.

If you don’t have yourself a PlayStation console and want to play the game or games on your PC, there is an added bonus. The PC version of the remasters include a bit of cosmetics. Anyone who purchases the game gets the “Valve Helmet.”

The original Nioh 2 didn't get a lot of fanfare when it was released back in March of 2020. The fact that a coronavirus pandemic was tearing through the world when it launched likely had something to do with it. If you didn’t pick the game up back then, it sounds like it will be worth your time this February.
