The third season of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is set to go live on Wednesday, April 12, and it will introduce a ton of changes to Warzone 2.0. From changes to ranked play to new features and a redesigned Gulag, here is everything to look forward to.

Warzone 2.0 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 are set to go live on Wednesday, April 12 at 1 pm ET, with the update available to download on April 10 at 1 pm ET. And as we get closer to the release, Activision served us with patch notes, unveiling all the changes that are coming to the game.

New Game Modes

Among other changes coming to Warzone 2.0 is also the introduction of two new game modes, including ranked play and Plunder.

Ranked Play

After years of outcries by the community, Activision finally decided to introduce ranked play for Warzone; however, it won’t be added at the start but rather in the middle of the season. As it stands now, we don’t have many details yet, but there are a few important things to know.

  • Ranked play will be played in Trios.
  • There will be a top-250 leaderboard, similar to the ranked play leaderboard in MW2.
  • The rules of Warzone 2.0 ranked play will be similar to the World Series of Warzone.

Plunder

The highly popular game mode from the original Warzone is coming back to Warzone 2.0 during Season 2. Like in the original Plunder, the game mode will see teams race to collect the most cash and hit the goal before the time runs out with respawns enabled.

Massive Resurgence

Fans of Resurgence will be happy to hear that Season 3 will expand it to Al Mazrah. Massive Resurgence will be available at the launch of Season 3, and it will use the entire Al Mazrah map, which pits up to 150 players against each other in specific squad sizes (Trios, Quads).

New Warzone 2.0 Features

Besides three new game modes, Season 3 will introduce new features and quality-of-life changes, including a new Gulag, The Blackliste.

  • New Gulag – named “The Blackliste”, will have long exterior lanes and close combat spaces; the same map will be used in Gun Fight in Modern Warfare 2.
  • Redeploy Drones – a redesign of the Redeploy balloons from the Warzone Caldera, with new movement options for the larger map.
  • UAV Towers – from DMZ, the UAV Towers enter the battle royale game at fixed locations. The UAV Towers can be activated and give the players a local UAV for a short time; however, once activated, they will give nearby players an audio cue.
  • Tempered Plated Carriers – first introduced in Caldera, the tempered-plated carriers allow players to replate fully while using only two plates instead of three, making them perfect for moments when you have to get back into action asap.
  • Perk Packs – expected to be added mid-season, perk packs are a new addition to Warzone 2.0 and will be available for purchase at Buy Stations, providing passive benefits that otherwise only come in the middle or at the end of the match, including Specter, Recon, and Vanguard.

New Weapon - FJX Imperium & Cronen Squall

FJX Imperium is a new name for the iconic Intervention sniper rifle from earlier CoD titles, which will make a comeback to the modern CoD and will be available through the battle pass. It will join another addition in Cronen Squall, a battle rifle which will also be available through the Season 3 battle pass.

Season 3 of Warzone 2.0 and CoD: Modern Warfare II is just around the corner, and while the season will launch with a bang – introducing a plethora of changes – there are even more updates scheduled to hit the live servers throughout the season, keeping the game fresh and interesting.
