Pay-To-Win DMZ Bundles Enter Modern Warfare 2

Infinity Ward and Activision decide to introduce P2W DMZ Operator Bundles
by Tit Krajnik on April 13, 2023

The new match of Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 content was generally accepted well by the community, but amidst all the changes are also pay-to-win bundles for DMZ players, which have caused quite a stir in the CoD community. Although there are mixed opinions on the changes, this is the first time a CoD title has truly accepted a pay-to-win approach.

Technically, this is not the first time a Call of Duty title had a pay-to-win item added to the game. Some might remember the 2019 Modern Warfare skins, which were very difficult to see, and inadvertently gave players who bought them an advantage – especially in darker locations. But aside from it, a CoD title never truly had pay-to-win items available in its shop until now.

With the recent update, Call of Duty decisively stepped into pay-to-win waters with the Season 3 store bundles. That mainly includes the Bomb Squad Operator bundle, which has an operator skin that starts each DMZ match with a free medium backpack, giving quite a significant advantage to all players using it.

Moreover, the skin comes with a featured weapon with a substantial reduction to its insurance cooldown (from one hour to just 15 minutes), which essentially makes it a must-have in any DMZ match. But it doesn’t stop there.

Call of Duty dataminers have found even more P2W items that will enter the game soon with some future CoD MW2 store bundles, including operator skins that start DMZ matches with armor vests, revive kits, UAVs, and other equipment.

The shock news comes amid Modern Warfare’s struggles to retain its player base, and we can say for sure that the introduction of pay-to-win elements won’t help the cause, forcing the players to spend money to remain competitive with their peers.

As it stands now, the P2W elements are limited to only DMZ matches and aren’t present nor expected to be added to multiplayer or Warzone matches. However, considering the direction Infinity Ward and Activision are moving with the latest CoD title, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that we’ll get more pay-to-win items and cosmetics in other game modes.
