Blizzard Reveals Diablo IV Changes Based on Beta Feedback

Anticipate several Diablo IV changes
by Tit Krajnik on April 14, 2023

Diablo IV is set to launch in June, and as we get closer to the release date, Blizzard continues to implement changes to the game. The most recent got announced on Friday, April 14, and according to Blizzard, they're all inspired by beta testers' feedback.

Ahead of the long-awaited release of Diablo IV, Blizzard has held multiple test phases for the game to test its functionality and get input from the community. And not only did Blizzard listen to the community, but the developers also intends to implement many changes inspired by the feedback.

Blizzard has confirmed that the Diablo IV beta was the most successful beta in the franchise's history and that it has resulted in several changes that will be added to the ARPG, including boss adjustments, new dungeons, and class balance. Moreover, Blizzard will reduce the backtracking needed for players when they go between dungeons.

"One of the most common pieces of feedback we received is that players felt they were doing a lot of backtracking within certain dungeons. We have optimized multiple dungeons across all zones to minimize the need for backtracking," read the statement.

The dungeons which will receive layout updates include:

  • Caldera Gate
  • Defiled Catacombs
  • Derelict Lodge
  • Forbidden City
  • Hoarfrost Demise
  • Immortal Emanation
  • Kor Dragan Barracks
  • Maulwood
  • Rimescar Caverns

The developers have noted that the layout changes are intended to reduce backtracking, which "detracts from a player's experience", as they must retread the same paths when interacting with structure objectives. Those have been repositioned along the main dungeon pathways, making it easier for players to reach and allowing them to explore the dungeons after defeating the structures.

Yet that's only the tip of the iceberg of all the changes that'll be added to the game.

Diablo IV bosses will also undergo some tuning, including T'chort, Malnnok, and Vhenard, which have been adjusted due to their difficulty for melee players. In addition, their fights have been changed in a way that could differ significantly from beta, whereas the Butcher was made much stronger in the third and fourth World Tiers.

On top of dungeons, bosses, classes, UI, encounters, and cellar changes, Blizzard intends to implement many quality-of-life changes to Diablo IV. That includes fixing the issue where players could increase attack speed by move cancelling, an issue where characters weren't immune and unforgettable after loading into a new area, and the removal of the reset dungeon button.

This is not the first nor the last batch of updates to Diablo IV, and while it's uncertain whether Blizzard will look to weak the game any more before the release, there's certainly a lot more class tuning to be done – which we can expect to be added gradually, post-launch.
