Mages Set To Receive Buffs For All Thee Specializations in WoW: Dragonflight Patch 10.1

Frost, Fire, and Arcane are all getting buffed in Patch 10.1
by Tit Krajnik on April 22, 2023

Blizzard has been working hard to implement changes that'll come with World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Season 2, but for the last few weeks, the developer has not touched not mentioned one of the most iconic classes. That, however, changed on Friday, April 21, when Blizzard announced a plethora of changes to all three mage specializations – all receiving some buffs.

With the World of Warcraft Dragonlight Embers of Neltharion update, we can expect significant changes to Mages, including the Fire specialization, which is set to receive a flat buff to key spells such as Fire Blast, Pyroblast, Fireball, and Scorch.

Moreover, Fire Mages will be happy to hear about the Improved Combustion buff, which now grants Mastery equal to 75% of your critical strike (up from 50%). These buffs will help Mages with their burst windows while adding some much-needed reliable damage outside of Combustion windows.

Frost Mages will see many positive changes to their talents, including a 10% buff to Comet Storm, a 12% buff to Snowstorm (per stack), and a 20% buff to the damage of Glacial Assault. Moreover, the core abilities in Brain Freeze, Blizzard, and Frozen Orb are all getting buffed with a flat damage increase.

Lastly, we have Arcane Mages, who are getting the biggest buffs in Embers of Neltharion. Radiant Spark and Touch of the Magi will both have their duration extended to 12 seconds (from 10), while Arcane Blast, Arcane Barrage, and Arcane Missiles all got their damage increased.

And to top it all off, Arcane Mage's two-set bonus Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible, will increase the spec even more powerful.

With the added changes, Mages could be re-added to the list of preferred classes in raids and M+ dungeons, having struggled to find their place in the recent patch. According to stats from 10.7, Mages have been middle-of-the-pack in the raiding environment, with Fire occupying 11th and Arcane mage 13th place in terms of overall and boss damage – with Frost sitting in 22nd place as the fourth-worst specialization of the patch.

The changes to Mage specialization can now be tested on the PTR servers, where the players can explore the new Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible raid and the new M+ dungeons, which will be added to the rotation with the release of Patch 10.1 on May 2.
