Call of Duty Is Officially Getting A Board Game

The game goes beyond being what one would expect
by Tit Krajnik on April 24, 2023

As reported, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is getting a sequel, which many expect to be a DLC rather than a new stand-alone title. And while it’s still unclear what fans will be offered, as a part of Activision’s future plans, a new CoD game was confirmed on Monday, April 24, but it’s not what people expected.

Since the release of Warzone 2 Season 3, the game developers have had their hands full, fixing various bugs and implementing changes to the game to fix any issues that came with a trickly post-launch period. However, despite that, it has been confirmed that Activision has been working on a new Call of Duty game which already has an official trailer.

Yet, it won’t resemble any of the previous titles - because it won’t be a video game at all.

In partnership with Arcane Wonders, the creators of Acquatica, Mage of Wars and Foundations of Rome, Activision is set to release a Call of Duty The Board Game. The first copies of the game will go out in the summer of 2023 for Kickstarter supporters, with the official release slated for 2024.

Not many details about the Call of Duty The Board Game have been revealed yet, besides that it will be a board game with plastic miniatures of CoD operators, including Ghost, which was featured in the promotional video. Whether other popular CoD operators, such as Captain Price, will join the list remains to be seen, but it’s fair to assume that he will, alongside other names in Alex, Farah, and Mara.

Although quite a unique approach by Activision to release a board game of the popular franchise, it’s not the strangest idea to build on the success of Call of Duty and expand its presence into the board game industry. Still, it remains to be seen how the board game will work.

As for the actual Call of Duty sequel, there is no information about Infinity Ward’s plans. It’s believed that we will get a substantial DLC for MW2 rather than a stand-alone game knowing that it was promised that MW2 would be the only CoD release for two years. However, Activision has decided that the DLC is large enough to be a separate sequel, which is expected to launch in late 2023.
