Valorant Pays Tribute To A Late Pro Player With In-Game Title

Valorant added a special in-game title as a tribute to a late professional player.
by Tit Krajnik on April 26, 2023

Released on Tuesday, April 25, the Valorant Patch 6.0.8 introduced a plethora of changes to the game, including adjustments to the operator's abilities, changes to the map pools, and bug fixes. But among all the new features, Riot Games also secretly added an in-game title to pay tribute to a late professional player.

With Patch 6.0.8, Valorant added a new battle pass, which like in the previous seasons, gives the players a chance to purchase it and unlock various exclusive rewards. But among all the goodies the Season 6 Act 3 has, there's also an easter egg title, "Gizem".

The "Gizem" title is a tribute to Turkish pro player Gizem "Luie" Harmankaya, who passed away in February after the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, which resulted in over 50,000 deaths. Luie competed for team Unknownpros Female, as well as Galakticos Sirens and Vivace Vista in Valorant Game Changers EMEA, a female European, Middle Eastern, and African circuit.

She started her career in 2021 with Galakticos before moving to Valstars Gaming Female, where she competed in the VCT Game Changers EMEA Series III and reached the quarter-finals. In 2022, Luie competed in the VCT Game Changers EMEA Series I under Vivace Vista and, after a 13th-16th-place finish, signed for Unknownpros Female before joining Turtuglu Bld Esports, a local Turkish esports organization.

Players can unlock the Guzem player title after reaching tier five of the current battle pass, or once they get 4,250 XP. These titles are then shown under the player's in-game name in the lobby and during the loading screen, with most obtainable through Agent contract progression, participating in and winning pro Valorant events, and via code redemption.

Besides the new title, Patch 6.0.8 also introduced changes to Killjoy and Gekko, removed Icebox from the active map pool, and made various miscellaneous changes and bug fixes.
