Will Fortnite Get Ranked Play?

Fortnite ranked play is closer than expected
by Tit Krajnik on May 13, 2023

Fortnite was released in July 2017 and has since added many content updates to keep the game fresh and interesting. But, while Fortnite has introduced many things to the battle royale game, it has never had a ranked mode, which is quite common for online PvP games. That, however, just might change in a few days.

On Friday, May 12, Epic Games teased the addition of ranked play to Fortnite with a short video showcasing what seems to be ranked badges which increase in difficulty. In the video, there are eight badges, each likely signifying a rank and even though we don’t know what the badges are called, they seem to follow the familiar pattern already seen in League of Legends of bronze-silver-gold-platinum-diamond.

As it stands now, Epic Games hasn’t shared any more details besides the short video, but based on the in-game news feed, the Fortnite ranked play will release on May 16, 2023, which coincides with the next major Fortnite update (v24.40).

Ranked play, which is now all but officially confirmed, is something Fortnite players have been looking forward to since the game came out, and it’s fair to question why did it take Epic Games so long to consider introducing an integral part of most online multiplayer games. Even though some prefer to play in non-competitive environments, having something to fight for while having an easy way to measure your improvement as a player does add another layer of excitement to any gaming experience.

Besides ranked play, Epic Games also plans to add more content to Fortnite. As recently leaked and rumoured, Dragon Ball’s Goku Black will be added to the battle royale game, marking a huge anime collaboration and the second Dragon Ball-Fortnite crossover, which first happened back in 2022, and brought with it an event and outfits for Bulma, Beerus, Vegeta, and Goku.

Ranked Play is expected to be added on May 16, 2023, ahead of the launch of Chapter 4, Season 3 in early June 2023.
