The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was Daedalic Entertainment's take on the former Hobbit's story. The gameplay looked pretty cool and previous games within the Lord of the Rings timeline, like Shadow of Mordor, were unconventional titles that did extremely well. Considering that, Gollum could have very well been a sleeper hit that paved the way for future games of its kind.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has received so many negative reviews from a variety of outlets and fans due to a number of reasons. One of the most common complaints about the game is the visuals, as they are nowhere near what was promised in trailers. Reviewers slammed the gameplay interface and its poor quality in comparison to just about any other video game ever.
In response to this, Daedalic Entertainment released an apology via the official Gollum Twitter page.

The underwhelming response to the game might not get fixes right away, but we can definitely expect them to arrive sooner rather than later. Hopefully, it will be possible for the game to recover from this, considering that the concept was one that many fans were looking forward to.
