Riot Confirms Valorant Launch Date In China

China is finally getting its own version of Valorant
by Tit Krajnik on June 28, 2023

Riot Games has announced the official launch date for Valorant in China, just over three years after the game's global release. Alongside the official release, Chinese players will also have access to a highly-demanded in-game feature which allows recording of the matches.

Since its global release in June 2020, Valorant has blossomed into one of the most popular free-to-play first-person shooter games, and it didn't need long to become one of the biggest esports titles. Over the three years, Valorant continued to grow in popularity and, at the start of 2023, completely restructured its competitive scene, which rivals that of League of Legends and Counter-Strike.

However, while the game has been enjoying immense success and growth in popularity, it has yet to officially launch in China. But that's going to change very soon.

At the end of 2022, Tencent (Riot Games' parent company) got the green light to launch Valorant in China when the game was one of many foreign games approved by the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA). Early into 2023, it was reported that Valorant would roll out in China sometime in the summer, but it wasn't until this week that the official launch was confirmed.

As announced by Riot Games, during the Shanghai event, Valorant will release in China on July 12, 2023, which is huge news for the game's popularity and its competitive ecosystem. The latter's expansion into the Chinese market was already discussed earlier this year, and as reported, everything is ready for China to receive its Valorant esports league.

Valorant will release in China with 16 agents, four maps, and the long-awaited built-in recording tool.

The announcement comes just a week before the first Chinese LAN Valorant event – VCT China Qualifier – where the top 12 Chinese Valorant teams will fight for three tickets leading to VALORANT Championship 2023.

Even though Valorant has yet to officially release in China, many Chinese esports organizations already field esports teams, which have recently made a splash on the international stage. At the start of June, China's EDward Gaming placed top six at VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo, where they outperformed some of the world's best Valorant teams, proving the massive potential of the region.
