Blizzard Announces Major Balance Changes for Overwatch 2

A strong in-game support is getting a nerf
by Tit Krajnik on July 01, 2023

On Friday, June 30, Blizzard revealed what the next round of balance changes for Overwatch 2 will bring, which includes a significant nerf to one of Overwatch 2's strongest heroes. As confirmed, Zenyatta is getting some of her abilities nerfed, following the community outcries of the support being too strong.

Zenyatta has been one of Overwatch 2's strongest heroes for a while, with many players complaining about her kit, which they believed is too strong and is due to a nerf. Blizzard heard the outcries and made the necessary adjustments, targeting her Discord Orb ability, which seems to have been causing the most problems.

The Discord Orb allowed Zenyatta to launch an orb at an enemy and increase its damage received by 30%, which is a significant number. With the upcoming balance changes, Blizzard decided to weaken Zenyatta's Discord Orb; however, the developers refrained from revealing by how much.

Besides Zenyatta's nerfs, Blizzard also has plans for other heroes. Earlier this week, Blizzard already pushed updates for Mei, Cassidy, and Lifeweaver but found that they require more tuning.

"What we found was that Cassidy's Magnetic Grenade was slightly too easy to land, Mei's overall effectiveness dropped as she traded damage for more slowing utility, and Lifeweaver's impact was much greater than before. We're still looking to improve player control over aiming Thorn Volley."

Symmetra and Trombjorn are also set to receive some fine-tuning, which will shift their power away from their turrets and add more strength to the rest of their kits. On the other side, two unrepresented tanks, Orisa and Reinhardt, will be buffed by increasing their "front-line capability".

The post also unveiled that we're close to the release of a new hero. Blizzard has not revealed any details about the latest addition to the game; however, the players already go to see the new hero's silhouette, with many taking the opportunity to create concept piece art, and according to Blizzard, some got the details right.

Unfortunately, Blizzard decided against providing more information about the next hero and will take their time releasing it to the game. As for the announced balance changes, they're expected to go live in mid-July.
