Capcom Confirms Monster Hunter Rise PC Release

Following fan engagement, a PC version is in development
by Luke Luby on March 01, 2021

The Monster Hunter franchise has received quite a positive reception since its initial release. This has been especially true with its 2018 release, with fans eagerly awaiting Monster Hunter Rise. The latest installment of the franchise is set for release on Nintendo Switch later this year. However, fans of the franchise weren't exactly thrilled to hear that it would just be releasing on the Switch. As a result, they began a campaign to get it released on PC, too.

The campaign has gotten the attention of Capcom, which has announced that a PC version of the game is in development. That being said, it will be a longer wait than the Switch's edition. Speaking to IGN, as per TheGamer, series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto said:

“We received a lot of requests for a PC version of Monster Hunter Rise, particularly from overseas players, and so we have decided to develop a version for PC, which we aim to release in early 2022. This is still under development, so I’d like to share more detailed information when the time is right.”

Naturally, the year-long-plus waiting period might be frustrating for long-time fans of the franchise. Many were hoping that the release would be sometime this year. However, it doesn't seem like the PC version was initially planned, which would explain the additional wait.

Rise follows the same naming mechanism as its predecessor, with the team behind the game explaining that they wanted to avoid numbering the games. Instead, they wanted the title to reflect the game's central themes or concepts. In the case of the new game, this would focus on rising through the game's vertical levels. Gameplay elements also tie into this.

Monster Hunter Rise will be released on Nintendo Switch on March 26. It's set for a PC release sometime in 2022.
