Diablo 4 Trading Indefinitely Shut Down By Blizzard

This is why we can't have nice things
by Natalie Collazo on August 15, 2023

Finding a game's exploits isn't a new thing, but it's definitely becoming much more prominent in recent years. The latest exploit in Blizzard's critically-acclaimed Diablo IV has forced the developers to shut down in-game trading in order for them to look into it. In most cases, these exploits only affect the player character and no one else.

This time, the exploit is a duplication one that could ruin the entire player economy as those items are traded to other players. This was announced via a Diablo IV subreddit in which a Blizzard community manager discussed the issue:

"As always, any account that engages in gold and item duplication exploits will be actioned in accordance with our End User License Agreement."

Probably the worst part about the exploit is how easy it is to accomplish. It does require you to intentionally lose connection to the server, but it worked well when it did. As someone began the trade and dropped their items or gold in the appropriate spot, they can disconnect from the server and have all of those items refunded to them after logging back in. Now, doing this over and over again will definitely cause issues, which is what Blizzard is actively working against.

This news comes at the heels of the latest trading patch that was intended to log players into the Trade channel by default. Hopefully, this will be changed soon so that players can engage in regular gameplay again.
