Alan Wake II Shows Off Remedy's Live-Action Scare Factor

It's arriving sooner than you think!
by Natalie Collazo on August 22, 2023

Alan Wake II is almost here, and with that comes a new trailer courtesy of the most recent Gamescom opening night live stream. They showed off a few things to increase the anticipation of the upcoming horror title, including its inclusion of live-action, cinematic cutscenes. Developer Remedy Entertainment isn't a stranger to using live-action elements in their game, seeing as that was the case with Quantum Break, but seeing them in Alan Wake II gives them a completely new definition.

The footage seen at Gamescom is a combination of in-game gameplay and live-action sequences. with Matthew Porretta as the eponymous Alan Wake. Both the story being told as well as the switch between different shots invokes a sense of uneasiness as well as the idea of memory loss. Even after watching the trailer from beginning to end, I still felt as though I didn't know what was going to be happening in-game, I just knew that it was going to be scary.

We don't have much time until the sequel to the decade-old Alan Wake finally arrives, but this new reveal makes the wait seem much longer. We have a breakdown of Alan Wake II if you don't know about the game already or are looking for some more information before the official release.

Alan Wake II will be available on October 27 for PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
