Red Dead Redemption Will Run Slightly Better With The Latest Update

The recent update will make Red Dead Redemption run slightly better than the 2010 version on older consoles
by Tit Krajnik on October 04, 2023

Red Dead Redemption was re-released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in mid-August, giving the owners of PS4 and Nintendo Switch a chance to experience the open-world Western adventure game. However, the release was met with some issues.

The re-release came with largely unchanged graphics and no multiplayer. But the worst of all was that the game would run at a maximum of 30 FPS, which by today’s standards is abysmal, to say the least. And even though the game included a free Undead Nightmare DLC, the FPS issue left the fans disappointed, and rightly so, considering the game cost $50.

The fairly high price tag was defended by Take-Two’s EVP of Finance, Hannah Sage, who pointed out that the game also includes the Undead Nightmare expansion and that $50 is a fair price for a standalone game and a great value for the customers.
Still, paying $50 for a game that runs at 30 FPS doesn’t sound like it offers much value.

Fortunately, Rockstar Games listened to the outcries and announced a 1.03 update, which introduced a long-awaited option to toggle 60 FPS. Playstation 5 players who are playing the PS4 version through backwards compatibility can now toggle on 60 FPS, which will apply to the Undead Nightmare expansion and the base game.

It’s worth noting that the 60 FPS option was not added to Nintendo Switch or the Xbox versions of Red Dead Redemption.
Besides adding 60 FPS, Patch 1.03 also introduced other changes, including options to enable subtitles upon booting the game and some improvements and general bug fixes.
