Hanzo Disabled In Overwatch 2 Due To A Bug

A game-breaking bug leads to Overwatch 2 disabling Hanzo
by Tit Krajnik on October 12, 2023

Overwatch has had many game-breaking bugs and exploits throughout its lifespan, which commonly led to heroes being disabled. Another such incident happened on Thursday, October 12, when Blizzard disabled Hanzo due to a bug that gave him unlimited full-charged arrows.

Hanzo’s bug was discovered by Overwatch 2 players and was first mentioned on Reddit, where a user jokingly asked Blizzard if anyone ever tested the toggle primary fire setting on Hanzo. The toggle primary fire was added to Hanzo with the Season 7 update, and while the update hasn’t introduced any other changes to the hero, it seems like the toggle option is causing issues.

According to players, the bug is fairly simple to recreate, and it allows players to shoot two or three times in a row almost immediately after some practice. The toggle primary fire feature switches the way Hanzo shoots his bow – instead of holding the fire button, players press the button twice, once to draw the bow and again to release it.

With the toggle on, players could spam the fire button as soon as they released a fully charged arrow, which resulted in every consecutive arrow flying at full speed and dealing maximum damage.

And sure enough, it didn’t take long for Blizzard to disable Hanzo until the issue gets fixed.

“Hanzo is disabled in all modes for the time being due to a bug with his toggle primary fire control option. Hoping to have a fix for this out later today and will be re-enabling him then.”

The news was revealed by Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson, who confirmed Blizzard’s decision to disable Hanzo in all game modes. And while Dawson has not confirmed how long Hanzo will be disabled, the team hopes to get it fixed by the end of today.
