Starfield Becomes Best Selling Game Of September While PS5 Stays Best Selling Console

What was your favorite title of last month?
by Natalie Collazo on October 18, 2023

A report by Circana, a video game analyst group, came back with a report stating that Starfield was the best-selling game for the month of September. Despite the game being exclusive to PC and Xbox Series X|S, neither of those platforms was the top-selling of September. In fact, it was the PlayStation 5 that reigned on top as the best-selling console last month, beating out the Nintendo Switch as well.

There were a wide variety of huge releases last month, including Payday 3 and Mortal Kombat 1, but neither of them had a chance against Bethesda Softworks' latest sci-fi game. The title is a completely new IP for the company, so it's no wonder that gamers from around the world flocked to its nearly flawless launch. The following are all of the games that were released in September in the order of best-selling:

  1. Starfield
  2. Mortal Kombat 1
  3. EA Sports FC 24
  4. Madden NFL 24
  5. Payday 3
  6. NBA 2K24
  7. The Crew: Motorfest
  8. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
  9. Hogwarts Legacy
  10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

The PlayStation 5 actually isn't just the best-selling hardware of September, it's the best-selling gaming hardware of 2023, with sales having increased by 10% since last September. That totals out to about $39.4 billion in revenue from this past year alone. It also helps that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 controller was the best-selling accessory of September at $197 million.

Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
