Blizzard Announces Changes for Overwatch 2 Battle Pass

Blizzard will implement changes to Overwatch 2 battle pass
by Tit Krajnik on October 20, 2023

As announced by Overwatch 2 Game Director Aaron Keller, Blizzard is focusing on implementing some changes to the Overwatch 2 battle pass. The adjustments will mostly address the complaints expressed by the player base.

In the latest Director's Take, Overwatch 2 Game, Director Aaron Keller spoke about Overwatch Season 7 and how the company has heard the players' opinions on the battle pass and the current game state. In the blog post, Keller explained that the developers are focusing on reworking the Overwatch competitive system and the battle pass, which are the current top priorities.

"We've heard from players that they want to see us take a look at our competitive system as well as our Battle Pass. These are two of the top priorities for the Overwatch team."

"We'll be detailing the direction of our reworked competitive mode at BlizzCon. However, we'll be talking about a new take on our Battle Pass and shop changes a little later most likely early next year."

The Overwatch 2 battle pass rework follows the complaints that the Litlith/Moira skins, introduced to the game with the Diablo crossover event, were only available to those who purchased the most expensive in-game bundle. Blizzard will address this by offering players different ways to acquire the new cosmetics in upcoming seasons.

"We do sell an Ultimate Battle Pass bundle every season with legendary skins in it and will continue to do so. However, the lesson that we're taking away from this moment is to make sure that we provide more ways to acquire some of our most popular skins."

But there are other changes that might be in the cards.

Overwatch 2 players have long been asking for a complete revamp of the battle pass system, hoping for Blizzard to take inspiration from Valorant and Call of Duty. Most agree that Souvenirs aren't that appealing or useful and that they would like more titles in the Battle Pass, as well as that it would introduce coins and shop credit points rather than game currency.

Obviously, it's tough to expect Blizzard to make all the changes the players are demanding; some positive changes to the battle pass have been promised and are set to be added to the game soon.
