Microsoft Unveils Latest Earnings Report - Show Huge Growth

Another great quarter for Microsoft in the books.
by Natalie Collazo on October 25, 2023

Every quarter seems to get better and better for Microsoft, and their most recent earnings report shows more of the same in that direction. According to their first quarter of 2024, which runs from July 2023 to September 2023, revenue is up by 13% and net income has also been increased by 27%, This is all thanks to their cloud services, OEM revenue, and several other factors that helped bake this one of their biggest non-holiday quarters.

That period of time saw the release of Starfield, the first IP from developer Bethesda Softworks since they were acquired by Microsoft. In fact, their Game Pass service has seen a considerable improvement from years before which has also helped contribute to the amount of subscribers and library users there are. Starfield launched on Game Pass as well as the Xbox Series X|S and PC on the day that it was released.

Unfortunately, it looks like their hardware didn't see the same increase in revenue. Instead, there was a 7% decline, even with the launch of a new Series S console, raising the storage from 512 GB to 1 TB. There is also the question of their hardware's availability in stores since its release, which could have also contributed to poor sales.

As a whole, Microsoft made about $56.5 billion in revenue during the first quarter of 2024. With this coming quarter, we can only expect to see even better results considering that it would be their first quarter with Activision Blizzard King under their wing. There was much conversation around the acquisition, and it officially went through earlier this month, promising a new wave of experiences for Xbox users.
