Overwatch 2 Plans For 2024 Include New Heroes, New PvP Mode, and More

During BlizzCon, Blizzard announced big plans for Overwatch 2

During BlizzCon 2023, Blizzard revealed big plans for Overwatch 2 going into 2024. As revealed, next year will be packed with a plethora of new content, including a new game mode, new heroes, and the long-awaited return of Hanamura.

Overwatch 2 game director Aron Keller appeared on the stage during BlizzCon 2023 to share exciting news for Overwatch 2 and the company’s plans for the game for 2024. He started the big announcement by revealing the game’s 39th hero, Mauga, a tank champion, who will be succeeded by a DPS hero named Venture and a support hero, codenamed “Space Ranger.”

Besides the three revealed new Overwatch 2 heroes, Blizzard plans to add a fourth hero sometime in 2024; however, no information about it is available yet.

However, the four announced new heroes are just the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come to Overwatch 2 in 2024. Keller also detailed an upcoming new game mode that is set to be added to the game in the next few months.

Called “Clash,” the new Overwatch 2 game mode will have five capture points spread across the map. In Clash, the teams fight over the middle point to start off the game and can then fight back and forth across the map, trying to capture all five points.
The end goal of Clash is to either capture all the points or reach the maximum score – similar to Domination game mode in other FPS titles.

The first confirmed map for Clash is Hanaoka, which is the return to Hanamura – the home of Hanzo and Genji. Hanamura was one of the maps included in the game's original release in 2016, but in Overwatch 2, it was only accessible in Arcade and custom games.

In 2024, Overwatch 2 will keep seasons and seasonal themes such as Egyptian mythology and eldritch horror. Moreover, Blizzard plans to rework the competitive mode early into 2024 as well as new rewards, but Keller hasn’t shared much details about it yet.
