PayDay 3 Announces A Major Free Content Update

PayDay 3 update brings back two legacy heists
by Tit Krajnik on November 14, 2023

On Tuesday, November 14, Developer Starbreeze revealed that PayDay 3 is getting a major free content update, which will include a long-requested tune-up to progression, a new skill tree, as well as the return of two legacy heists.

As confirmed by Starbreeze, the PayDay 3 update is coming in November, and with it, a plethora of changes to the game, which has struggled to retain players early into its life cycle. Since the game’s full release in September, PayDay 3 has struggled with many issues, leading to an overwhelmingly negative reception from the players.

However, the team behind the co-op heist shooter continues to work on bettering the game and will do so with the upcoming update.

As confirmed in the Dev Update, the PayDay 3 update will introduce two missions from PayDay 2, including Murky Station and Cook-Off, which will be added with some changes to fit the new game. However, as lead producer Andreas Häll Penninger assured, the missions will maintain their classic identity.

Besides two returning heists, the update will also introduce optimization improvements, over 200 bug fixes, balancing and quality of life changes, and new music by composer Gustavo Coutinho, who previously worked on PayDay 2.

The most significant change is adjustments to challenge progression, one of the main things players have complained about since the PayDay 3 launch. Players could only gain infamy by completing challenges, while completing a heist without it would essentially mean no progression.

The update will address it, giving the players Infamy Points for each completed heist. The changed challenge system will also introduce UI adjustments to make challenges more transparent and even recommend objectives to help with progression.

Lastly, the update will re-ad the Transporter skill line, allowing players to carry more than one bag. The skill line was already teased in post-launch live streams but wasn’t officially announced until today.

PayDay 3 Update Will Offer:

  • The return of two Legacy Heists - Cook Off & Murky Station
  • New first-person animations
  • Transporter skill line
  • Added Infamy Points for each completed heist
  • Weapon inspect animations
  • New music by composer Gustavo Coutinho
  • Optimization improvements
  • +200 bug fixes
  • Quality of life changes
  • New “Under Wraps” mask
  • New “Compact7 Lycan” preset weapon
