League of Legends Tanks Get Three New Items in 2024

Tanks are getting a trifecta of new items along with League's 14th season
by Tit Krajnik on December 09, 2023

The League of Legends 2024 season is fast approaching — set to kickstart on January 10 — and with it comes a plethora of changes to one of the world's most popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games.

Besides removing Mythic items, Riot Games has big plans for the League of Legends 2024 season. There are significant changes to Baron, the design of the lanes, and the overall feel of the map. Additionally, there will be new items for all roles, including tanks, who'll gain access to a trifecta of wholly new and reworked items.

League of Legends 2024 Tank Items

Tanks are getting a trio of new items with the League's 14th season, including Unending Despair, Hollow Radiance, and Kaenic Rookern. Although unique additions, some bare similarities to items we already know – at least in their function.

Unending Despair

  • Cost: 2800 gold
  • Recipe: Chain Vest + Ruby Crystal + Kindlegem + 800 gold
  • Stats: 400 Health, 55 Armor, 10 Ability Haste
  • Passive: While in combat with champions, every 7 seconds, deal magic damage to nearby enemy champions, healing for 175% of the damage dealt.

Unending Despair might not be heavy in the stats it provides, but its true power lies in the passive. It damages enemies every seven seconds and heals the wearer for 175% of the damage dealt, suggesting it could be a very powerful late-game item.

Hollow Radiance

  • Cost: 2800 gold
  • Recipe: Bami’s Cinder + Spectre’s Cowl + 550 gold
  • Stats: 600 Health, 40 Magic Resistance, 100% Base Health Regeneration
  • Passive – Immolate: Taking or dealing damage causes you to begin dealing magic damage per second to nearby enemies (increased by 25% against minions) for 3 seconds. Taking or dealing damage refreshes the duration of this effect.
  • Passive – Moonburn: Killing an enemy (non-ward, non-structure) deals 30 (+3.5% bonus HP) magic damage in an area around them.

With a 2800 price point, Hollow Radiance comes with a very familiar passive, which damages nearby enemies, suggesting that it should replace Sungire Aegis as an item with the same purpose.

Kaenic Rookern

  • Cost: 3000 gold
  • Recipe: Spectre’s Cowl + Negatron Cloak + 850 gold
  • Stats: 350 Health, 80 Magic Resistance, 100% Base Health Regeneration
  • Passive – Magebane: After not taking damage from champions for 15 seconds, gain a magic shield for 18% of your maximum health.

Kaenic Rookern is a unique addition to the game, which, like Unending Despair, should prove extremely strong in late-game situations. Offering an 18% max health magic shield, Kaenic Rookern will likely be the go-to item for very tanky champions, offering a lot more defensive capability.

Reworked LoL Tank Items

Besides introducing three new items, Riot Games also reworked three of the most popular tank items in the game, removing some of their offensive capabilities in favor of more defensive stats and passives.

Dead Man's Plate

  • Cost: 3100 gold
  • Recipe: Winged Moonplate + Chain Vest + Ruby Crystal + 1100 gold
  • Stats: 300 Health, 45 Armor, 5% Movement Speed
  • Passive – Shipwrecker: While moving, build up to 40 bonus Move Speed. Your next Attack discharges built up Move Speed to deal up to 40 (+100% base AD) bonus physical damage.
  • Passive – Unsinkable: The strength of movement slowing effects is reduced by 25%.

Dead Man's Plate is getting tweaked with League's 14th season with the addition of Unsinkable passive. Still, it functions pretty similarly to the previous version.

Jak'Sho the Protean

  • Cost: 3200 gold
  • Recipe: Chain Vest + Negatron Cloak + Ruby Crystal + 1100 gold
  • Stats: 200 Health, 50 Armor, 50 Magic Resistance
  • Passive – Voidborn Resilience: For each second in champion combat, gain a stack, up to a maximum of 5 stacks. At maximum, stacks become empowered, increasing your bonus resists by 25% until the end of combat.

The new version of Jak'Sho the Protean won't offer as many offensive stats, and with the change of its passive, the item won't deal nearly as much damage. But it will make killing tanks much more challenging, increasing their bonus resistances by 25%.

Force of Nature

  • Cost: 2800 gold
  • Recipe: Negatron Cloak + Winged Moonplate + Ruby Crystal + 700 gold
  • Stats: 400 Health, 50 Magic Resistance, 5% Movement Speed
  • Passive – Absorb: Taking magic damage from enemy Champions grants a stack of Steadfast (up to a maximum of 8) for 7 seconds. Enemy Immobilizing effects grant an additional two stacks. One spell can add a new stack of Steadfast every 1 second.
  • Dissipate: While at eight stacks of Steadfast, gain 60 Magic Resist and 10% increased Movement Speed.

Force of Nature loses 10 points of magic resistance with the rework, but it won't affect the item's popularity, especially in games where the tanks have to deal with a lot of magic damage. The new Force of Nature is a magic resistance version of Dead Man's Plate, giving tanks tons of defensive stats and some movement speed to help them chase down high-priority targets in team fights.

The tank item changes coming with League of Legends' 14th season are only the tip of the iceberg of what Riot Games has planned for its MOBA title. We'll be sure to cover all other notable changes at DailyGamer.
