Valorant Leaks Suggest Competitive Map Pool Changes

Haven might get removed from the competitive Valorant map pool
by Tit Krajnik on December 29, 2023

According to leaks, Valorant will introduce competitive map pool changes with Episode 8, set to release in 2024. If the rumours are correct it’ll be the first mal pool change in nine months.

Earlier this week, prominent Valorant leaker ValorLeaks, hinted at a new Controller agent entering the game and has now shared more interesting details about Episode 8. As hinted, the next episode will introduce competitive map pool changes, which will supposedly bring back Icebox.

Haven Out, Icebox In

Valorant Episode 8 is scheduled to start on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 and with it come a plethora of changes to Riot Games. While the next agent likely won’t release with Episode 8, Valorant will supposedly get a change to its competitive map pool.

The major talking point of the map pool is the removal of Haven, which is supposedly getting replaced by Icebox.

Icebox was removed from competitive play in April with Patch 6.08 and replaced by Bind. The decision split the community in half, with some complaining that Bind needed big changes to remain relevant and others liking how the map felt.

ValorLeaks also noted that Pearl and Fracture could be getting their time in the active map pool; however, Icebox is the first in line for the change as it has spent the most time out of rotation.

Like the last significant competitive map pool change, this leak was met with mixed feelings from the fans. While some don’t mind the removal of Haven, others aren’t too keen on the idea of Valorant removing a staple map from the pool.

Haven has made its debut in the competitive mal pool at the game’s debut and has never been removed from the rotation. If the leaks are correct and Haven gets replaced, Ascent will remain the only map to stay in the active pool since the start.

It’s currently unknown whether Valorant has made any changes to Icebox for its return – similar to how Breeze was changed before getting re-added to the competitive play. However, it won’t take long before Valorant shares more information.

Valorant Episode 8 is set to start on January 9, 2024.
