Xbox Wants to Go Multiplatform With These Four Games

More reasons to play more games
by Natalie Collazo on February 15, 2024

Microsoft has officially announced a groundbreaking move: several Xbox games are going multiplatform. The notorious head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, confirmed the news on the Xbox podcast. revealing that four system exclusives will soon be available on non-Xbox and PC platforms. While Spencer didn't explicitly mention titles, recent reports strongly suggested titles like Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves going to PlayStation and Switch.

What Games Are Going Multiplatform?

Spencer clarified that neither Starfield nor Indiana Jones & the Red Circle would be part of the games. Granted Starfield was set to be the biggest Xbox exclusive of last year when it was released. It is most likely against any dealings that were made for the game to be allowed to be multiplatform.

According to Spencer, the games that are expected to be multiplatform are already at least a year old. Among them, two are described as "community-driven," while the other two are categorized as "smaller games." Take a second to think about which games he's talking about!

He elaborated that the latter pair was never intended to be exclusive to a single platform. However, their success on Xbox and PC has led to this expansion, which could facilitate their growth and potentially set the stage for sequels.

Spencer emphasized that this strategic shift wouldn't alter Xbox's core approach. However, it reflects a broader trend in the industry towards reducing system exclusives, which he believes will continue to diminish over the next decade. This was also said about PlayStation at a recent investor's meeting. It seems that more big developers are acknowledging the values that gamers have.

Many are not willing to purchase new consoles and are more willing to just sacrifice which games they can play. More popularity may come to games that are available to a wider group of people.
