Halo Co-Creator and Director of Next Battlefield Title Leaves Ridgeline Games

Is the next Battlefield game doomed?
by Natalie Collazo on February 26, 2024

As reported by the famous Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, Marcus Lehto, the now-former director at Ridgeline Games, has officially left. While still under wraps, he was in charge of overlooking the next Battlefield game. The company, Ridgeline Games, is an EA subsidiary that will now need to work harder than before to get its game out the door. Having been a part of his own studio, V1, until its shutdown in 2021, Lehto is a huge figurehead in the gaming space. In fact, he is the co-creator of the famous FPS shooter, Halo.

What's Next For Marcus Lehto?

The same year that V1 shut down was when he got picked up by Ridgeline Games. In that time, he's been working as the director of narrative for the Battlefield franchise under Vince Zampella, the co-founder of Respawn Entertainment. His experience is well-respected in FPS games and it was expected that he would lead a great Battlefield title considering the horrific launch of the now-redeemed Battlefield 2042.

Popular YouTuber, DannyonPC, who was the first to notice this, also noticed that others left the studio this year including art director Chris Matthews. However, his departure was last month to go to 343 Industries, which now has control over the Halo franchise. Hopefully, this means that we will have a much better Battlefield title to look forward to considering that it seems like the developers will need to work extra hard.

However, it's very likely that we will see another flop of a Battlefield game that expects players to wait until it's actually playable. At least let's hope that this one will launch with a single-player campaign.
