PlayStation Brings Amerzone Back From The Beyond

Did you play this back in the day?
by Natalie Collazo on March 08, 2024

Older gamers probably recognize Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy. It is a popular fantasy adventure from 1999 that takes place in the mysterious Amerzone region. The region is home to giant white birds that hold some sort of cultural significance on the land that you're tasked with finding out. Now, a remake, also titled Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy, will be hitting the PlayStation 5 this September according to a new trailer.

What is Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy?

This new remake of Amerzone takes the game's original scale and faithfully recreates it from the ground up. The trailer shows off some of the gameplay which has you looking closely at key objects and solving mind-bending puzzles. From the looks of it, it  will be recreating a similar gameplay style in that you will need to choose the direction you want to go, as opposed to a free first-person experience.

The overworld looks absolutely beautiful and mimics the greatness that developer Microids normally delivers. If you're unfamiliar with them, they're the minds behind the Syberia franchise as well as Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express video game from last year.

We didn't see any white birds in the trailer, but we can assume that they're up to no good if they're hiding keys in hollowed-out books and creating safe codes. Let's see if this game is just as long and winding as the original was. It's also a unclear as to if the remake follows the exact story, as explorer Alexandre Valembois wasn't seen at all in the trailer and he plays a rather important character overall.
