Microsoft Confirms Some Bethesda Games Will Be Xbox Exclusive

Details vague, but Game Pass to benefit
by Oliver VanDervoort on March 15, 2021

After quite a long wait, the acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft is official. During the announcement of the takeover, Microsoft confirmed one detail that has long been speculated. Some Bethesda games will only come to Xbox and PC, avoiding the PS4 and PS5 entirely.

On the flip side, Microsoft wasn't remotely clear on just what games are going to exclusive. It's also unclear if this means "in the future" or that some Bethesda games already out there might need to be pulled off the PlayStation store.

However, it appears that if there is exclusivity, it only means future releases. On a blog post, Phil Spencer laid out plans, though it was still rather vague.

"With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players."

The big question now is whether or not that might include the upcoming and much anticipated Mass Effect trilogy remaster. Should that come only to the Xbox and GamePass it would be a massive boon for Microsoft.
