Konami Announces Salary Increases for Employees

Meanwhile Ubisoft and SEGA lay off hundreds of workers
by Joe Wilcock on April 08, 2024

In an official statement released today, Konami disclosed its plans to once again increase base salaries for its employees starting in March 2025, alongside boosting the starting salary for new graduates.

The incremental increase in base salary amounts to 5,000 JPY per month, equivalent to approximately $33 USD, resulting in an annual raise of 60,000 JPY. Moreover, Konami will uplift the current starting salary from 295,000 JPY to 300,000 JPY for most roles across its entities.

This salary adjustment marks the third consecutive fiscal year in which Konami has elevated base salaries, following similar increases for fiscal years ending in March 2023 and 2024. The augmented base salary will impact regular employees of Konami’s Japan domestic group companies.

While Konami’s salary enhancements may seem modest, they contrast sharply with recent industry trends characterized by widespread layoffs. SEGA, for instance, recently underwent significant staff reductions across various studios. Similarly, Ubisoft employees in France staged strikes seeking improved compensation.

Konami’s initiative aligns with a broader trend of studios prioritizing better pay for employees. Just last month, Capcom also announced plans to raise starting salaries starting in fiscal year 2025, indicating a potential positive shift in industry standards.

Konami Look to the Future

The decision to increase salaries underscores Konami’s commitment to its workforce and suggests stability within the company’s key projects. Notably, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake, though a specific launch date remains unconfirmed.

In a statement, Konami emphasized its dedication to fostering a supportive work environment and ensuring the financial well-being of its employees. The company reiterated its focus on innovation driven by diverse talent, reflecting its vision for sustainable growth over the next five to ten years.

“Looking five to ten years ahead into the future, Konami Group is committed to achieving sustainable growth by securing diverse human resources, maximizing the abilities of our employees and creating a satisfying working environment.”

The announced salary adjustments will take effect in March 2025 and apply to regular employees of Konami’s Japan domestic group companies. However, certain entities or job classifications may not be eligible for the outlined salary increases.
